Teenagers With Opiods and Analgesics - Teenage Drug Abuse

by: Adam Rise

Analgesics are more popularly known as painkillers and as the name suggests, are used to alleviate pain. This type of drugs work on the body by affecting the central and peripheral nervous system.

Some famous analgesics are paracetamol, morphine, salicylates, and tramadol. There are basically two types of analgesics; the narcotics and non-narcotics. Analgesics relieve pain by preventing pain signals from going to the brain or interfering with the brain's ability to interpret the pain signals that it picks up.

There are basically two types of narcotic analgesics; the opiods and the opiates. Opiates are alkaloids found in opium while opioids are derivatives of opiates.

An opioid is a chemical substance that has a morphine-like effect in an individual's body. Opioids are mainly used and prescribed for the relief of pain belonging to the category of analgesics. This type of receptors are found principally in the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract. The receptors in these two major organ systems mediate both the advantageous as well as the harmful effects of it.

There are some analgesics (paracetamol, acetaminophen) that can be easily bought over the counter. However, opioids are a bit difficult to purchase by teens and that's why they resort to contacting their friends who have access to drug peddlers. Teenagers can also use the power of the internet to get their dose of it.

This drug have long been known to treat and alleviate acute pain. They have also been found to be very useful in the field of palliative care to lessen the chronic, severe, disabling pain of terminal conditions such as cancer. Contrary to popular notions and belief, high doses of opioids are not required to control the pain of end-stage or advanced diseases.

Long Term Damage to Teenagers Using Hallucinogens - Teenagers Drug Abuse

by: Adam Rise

LSD, psilocybin and PCP are popular hallucinogens being consumed by teens. The availability of these drugs thrive in places considered as "metropolitan" areas. Hallucinogens may also be bought by teens at raves or dance clubs. The Internet may also serve as a great venue for teens that want to purchase hallucinogenic drugs. They can easily place their order and the drugs will be delivered, or shall we say smuggled, a few days or weeks after.

The effects of drugs on the body are not limited only to the brain, but also to the rest of the body. The immune system is weakened and increases the probability of succumbing to disease. There is also long term damage to the brain after the initial high has faded, often lasting up to four weeks in the user.

The aforementioned effects on the brain will linger long after the drug has been taken, and a few examples of what could happen is an increased likelihood of accidents because of impaired judgment and perception. Because the brain's pleasure center is also opened for long periods during the high period, repeated use of the drug causes depletion of the brain's pleasure chemicals, and leads to anxiety, and foremost among the effects, depression.

Reduced intellectual ability, motor skills and coordination, and social abilities are also part of the long-term effects of drugs. This is why drug addicts are more likely to be absent from work, and miss out on their social well being, as well as being withdrawn into themselves. In other words, they may be there physically, but not quite mentally.

Given the extent of the damage dealt to these persons, it's no wonder that these drugs are a danger to your children, and may affect the course of their lives as well. What should be done for the children's sake is education on the negative effects of these drugs, not only the short-term down periods but also the long-term effects on users. Another thing that should be shown is how these drugs' negative effects largely offset the short-term pleasure derived from their use.

Teenagers and Drugs - Stage of Exploration and Experimentation

by: Adam Rise

The rate of teenagers getting involved with different kinds of drugs is escalating at an alarming rate. Even though governments and other agencies are trying their best to educate teenagers and implement programs to spread information about the harmful effects of drugs, many teenagers still fall into its evil trap.

One of the major reasons why teenagers are very susceptible to drug usage and abuse is because they are in the life stage of exploration and experimentation. The curiosity of an individual is said to be at its highest point during the adolescent years.

Many glue-sniffing cases have been reported and most of the teenagers involved in such cases simply said that they did it because they were curious and wanted to feel what it was like to sniff glue. Aside from being deemed as the stage of curiosity, adolescence is also considered to be a time of turbulence and adjustment. Sometimes, teenagers fall into the trap of drug abuse because of peer pressure and the need to belong to social circles.

As mentioned earlier, the stage of adolescence is a stage that needs the feeling of acceptance and belonging. Teen parties can become a haven for inappropriate experimentation with alcohol and is often served and given to teens without limit.

More often than not, teenagers experience their first experience with drugs when they are in the company of their friends. Some are even reluctant to try drugs but their feelings of righteousness are overpowered by their need to be socially accepted.

Alcohol is a substance that can be very addicting and may cause many problems and complications in a teenager's life. Academic performance may deteriorate and the quality of the relationships, especially with family, may also be negatively affected.

Teenagers' Risks in Acquiring AIDS - Saliva Or Semen Transmission is More Prone?

by: Adam Rise

What is AIDS? AIDS is a short cut for acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It is a collection of infections and symptoms pertaining to the specific damage of the immune system. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes AIDS in humans as well as similar viruses in other species (FIV, SIV, etc).

Although there are available treatments and medication for AIDS and HIV, they are only good for decelerating the progression of the virus. For short, there is no known cure for AIDS.

HIV and other viruses related with AIDS are commonly transmitted through the direct contact of the bloodstream or mucous membrane with any bodily fluid containing HIV such as semen, vaginal fluid, blood, breast milk and pre-seminal fluid. HIV transmission may come in the forms of oral, anal and vaginal sex, contaminated hypodermic needles, blood transfusion, fluid exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.

Teenagers who are sexually active are prone to be at risk for AIDS, especially if they have different sexual partners. The risk of teenagers getting AIDS becomes higher if they don't practice safe sex.

Studies have shown that most of the reported HIV infections among teenagers were acquired through unsafe and unprotected sexual relations between partners, one of whom has HIV. Transmission through sexual means occur through the mixture of sexual secretions of one partner with the genital, rectal, or oral mucous membranes of another.

The risk of HIV transmission from exposure to the saliva of a person infected with HIV is smaller than the risk from exposure to semen. In short, insertive sexual acts are more prone to AIDS transmission among teens rather than receptive sexual acts. An individual would have to swallow several pitchers of saliva from an HIV carrier before he or she can have the risk of becoming infected with HIV.

Nowadays, it's a bit difficult to stop teenagers from engaging in premarital sex. Perhaps the best way to protect them from acquiring HIV is to constantly remind them to practice safe sex.

A lot of advertisements are promoting safe sex through the use of condoms. Practicing the ABC (Abstinence, Being Faithful and Condom use) of safe sex can also help protect teenagers from AIDS.

How To Teach Kids Baseball

by: Gord and Gertie Guide

Baseball is among the top favorite American pastimes of all ages. Not only is it a tradition, baseball connects families and communities together in the spirit of sportsmanship and good old fashion fun. And for children it can be the first step in teaching the importance of teamwork, following rules and how practice CAN make a difference.

On a personal level there are fathers everywhere, who can barely contain their excitement and purchase baseball gloves before their children even understand what it's all about. Who hasn't seen a toddler in a ball cap and a jersey?

By the time winter is over, you will find parents and their children in back yards or the nearest baseball field ready to start the season and get back into the swing of the game. Teams are formed and training begins. If this is your first time, here are a few tips to remember whether you are teaching your own child or you have stepping into the role as the neighborhoods new coach:

Be Their Role Model

Teaching baseball is not only about how to catch, throw and hit a ball, it's about teamwork, positive attitude and perseverance. Just by observing how you handle real games situations, your team can see how seriously you are about the rules of the game and your level of sportsmanship. Leading by example shows your ethics and attitude about wins and losses. Remember kids look up to you not only for instruction, but for guidance as well.

Stay positive

Everyone learns at different speeds so keep in mind that patience and positive reinforcement is vital. You can help them develop the skills to communicate their fears, ask questions and ease their worries about their own abilities.

Show Them You Care

Make time to listen to their concerns, laugh with them and be a shoulder when they need that little bit extra. They are not just learning about baseball, they are learning about interactions with people other than family.

Make Sure It's Fun

No matter what the age, keeping kids motivated and interested in the game can be easier when you keep the game fun. Encourage the kids to invite family members and friends to watch your baseball practices.

Motivate Them To Improve

Focus on their strengths and the skills they need improvement. Ask them where they think they may need help. Don't pressure your kids by talking about trophies, scholarships and million dollar deals. You are there to support their dreams, not dream for them.

Emphasize Organization and Discipline

As a coach, you need to make sure to communicate what you want from your players and what you expect from your team. By establishing rules and order in your coaching style you keep the kids in control of their actions and keen in their new skills as they continue to learn.

Let Them Learn By Doing

Explain to your kids that learning the basic rules, and methods is important, but it is through practice they will master the in's and out's of baseball. Be available for additional help when they need it and remind them often that indeed practice does makes a difference.

Spending the time to teach baseball to kids requires a commitment of time and patience. Never use pressure to make them learn too quickly, and allow them to improve at their own pace. Help them believe in themselves and reassure them that it is all right to make mistakes. After all, there are no real mistakes, there are only new lessons to be learned.

Designing Playground Equipment

by: Pete Tooley

Playground equipment designers today are more likely to be talking about the environmental impact of play equipment and understanding how children can be stimulated to learn through play, and how the imagination can be sparked within the child. This is a much better proposition than the aged idea of 'just keeping them off the streets'.

Even school playground equipment has taken on board that to be creative, play is an integral part of a child's development, school's are even incorporating mathematical thinking into P.E lessons. The use of multi use games areas otherwise known as MUGA, has been an innovative step towards creating a more functional use of children's outdoor playground equipment, the need for space decreases, as the multi activity of the area is designed to fit into the space available, thus negating a huge area for sports, however ideal this maybe.

Innovative play equipment is available to get children moving and enjoying play through all developmental stages of their growing years. The varied designs from climbing rocks to trail equipment is designed to give children confidence in their abilities and to encourage them to develop team building skills and keep them highly active.

A lot of playground designers are now incorporating the natural world into their designs, giving teachers and pupils the ability to interact with nature, from gardening to bird watching. The development of the sensory gardens is far removed from the cold hard metal framed play areas of the past. These sensory areas provide stimulation for children with health issues, encouraging touching of the various textures and listening for the sounds of various wind chimes.

Incorporating all age groups into playground design is required, however when children reach secondary level of schooling the needs for imaginative play reduces and more focus is placed upon the athletic ability and teamwork, the MUGA systems mentioned earlier are designed with this age group in mind also. These systems encourage all over body co-ordination for the use of football and other net sports, such as basketball.

As the teen age is difficult to keep interested, school play ground specialists also need to think about the technology this age group uses and school shelters are beginning to see the use of Bluetooth youth shelters making their way onto the playground.

For anybody seeking to have an overhaul of their school or communal playground there is funding for playgrounds and most reputable playground designers will be happy to supply information regarding sourcing funds for your new project.

Children and Fitness

by: Christine Dunbar

As the number of obese and overweight children in the United States continues to climb, fitness is a consideration that weighs heavily on the minds of parents, caretakers and teachers. The risk of health issues accompanying obesity among children provokes many fears that unless parents and children make significant changes in the lifestyles inhabited by our kids, diabetes, heart disease, and other weight related conditions have the potential to run rampant among American youth.

Importance of Fitness for Children

Although encouraging a healthy lifestyle, among children, that includes physical activity and fitness is vital to addressing issues associated with health problems and obesity, the addition of kid's fitness can also promote a lifelong love. Fitness not only encourages physical activity, keeping weight and accompanying conditions at bay, it also helps protect children from injuries that can occur when they are not accustomed to physical activity, movement and sports. Most injuries that plague children completing physical activities occur as a result of a lifestyle that lacks movement and activity that can provide balance, coordination and muscle memory necessary for a fit lifestyle.

Fitness and Physical Activity Benefits

Despite statistics praising physical activity among children as a weight management tool and method of decreasing injuries during activities and sports, fitness among children boasts a plethora of positive results and side effects. Strong bones and joints, stress relief, self confidence improvement and better academic concentration are just some of the other benefits touted by a child's active lifestyle, says HealthyChildren.org. In fact, according to the children's organization advocating a healthy lifestyle among youth, children who participate in sports, physical activities and other types of fitness positively affects the social lives of participants, offering a socially acceptable activity and associated peers.

Implementing Fitness and Physical Activity among Children

Understanding what types of activities and scheduling conflicts are preventing a child from obtaining a sufficient amount of physical activity and fitness can be a good way for parents to begin to understand how and where transformations can be made regarding kids' health. Tracking the amount of activity a child partakes can be as simple as gaining an awareness of their school schedules and whether they include physical education classes, recess and other ways children participate in fitness centered activities. Children who participate in a variety of physically demanding activities at school, such as extracurricular athletics or PE classes may not need as much prompting and extra fitness added to their day as a child who spends more time still and sedentary.

Set an Example

One of the best ways parents, caregivers and teachers can prompt children to compete in fitness activities and grasp a healthy lifestyle is by striving toward adopting a similar lifestyle that promotes and values physical activity. In fact, according to USA Today "No Time to Weight," children with even one obese parent have a 50 percent chance of being obese themselves. Children with two obese parents have an 80 percent chance of following in their footsteps, the article continues. Children who observe healthy lifestyles in their parents and role models have a better chance of adopting similar habits, highlighting the vital role parents play in influencing the fitness levels and physical activity of children.

Cubby house for your cute kids

by: Angela Camardi

I still remember the cubby house that my parents built for me in the backyard of our house. I am sure that most of us will have the fondest memories associated with the time we spent in our cubby houses either alone or with our friends and cousins. I am a grown up now but whenever I see the cubby houses for small kids at any place I am visiting, it takes me down the memory lane and the feeling is always amazing.

So, what is are cubby houses anyway? Well, a cubby-house is a tiny, comfortable place, a small replica of a full-sized house, specially built to provide the little ones their own private space! Cubby-house is generally used by the children as a place for spending time with their friends and play a lot of make believes games with them. Cubby houses may also prove to be a nice little retreat for the kids when they are not happy with the rest of the world.

Cubby houses are a great way to make the kids express their creative side and setting up a cubby house can be all the more fun if you involve your children in the project. Being involved will make them have a real sense of achievement and ownership once the cubby house has been setup. They will definitely be more careful in the upkeep of their very own cubby house.

While building a cubby house yourself can prove to be cheaper that the cost of a pre-built cubby house, we recommend that you consider buying a ready to assemble cubby house as it looks more professional and will prove to be sturdier and safer for your children.

When selecting from the various options and types of cubby houses for your kids you must take their age and development level into account so as to be able to choose the best cubby house. You must pay extra heed to safety, insulation, ventilation and lighting while evaluating various cubby houses. You will also need to ascertain that whether the cubby house will be for both boys and girls or just one of the gendres as you will need to furnish and decorate it accordingly.

You can enhance the charm of cubby houses by filling them up with toys and other play equipment like slides, swings and even a ladder so that the children may have all the more fun.

Invest in a school name label for kids

by: Gareth Hoyle

Life has a way of causing chaos even when you are trying to be organised as possible, and in no area of life does this seem to be truer than the school run. If you have children, getting everything together each morning so that you can get your kids into the car and in school in time can be difficult, and it doesnt help if one of your children suddenly pipes up to say that they cant find their bag, coat or jumper. Given how hectic todays world is, there is no shortage of situations in which your child could lose their belongings: in the playground, in the classroom, after P.E. the list is endless.

It is for situations such as these that you may wish to label your childrens belongings, not only so that they are never in any doubt as to which things belong to them, but also so that if their things do end up getting lost, such items can hopefully be found and returned to your child pretty quickly.

In this situation, many people consider PVC labels, but many people are concerned about the harm that such labels can have on human health and the environment. It is for this reason that so many people are looking for safe, environmentally friendly alternatives, and indeed, there is no shortage of relevant online stores offering such labels.

Which school name label for kids to choose?

If you are considering the different types of school name label, there are a number of possibilities. Many online stores, for example, offer non-Vinyl (non-PVC) sticker labels that you can stick to any smooth dry solid surface, and that are able to withstand exposure to the weather, dishwashers and microwave ovens, among others. This makes such labels perfect for school lunch boxes, sports equipment and mobile phones, among others.

Other popular types of school name label include an iron on label that can be easily applied with any house hold clothes iron, making them the perfect choice for school uniforms or gym clothes.

Whatever you do, make sure that you choose an online store that is reputable and that offers safe, high quality labels at a low price.

New Generation Picture Puzzles Offer Wide Selections & Customized Options

by: Main Bill

Picture puzzles popularly known as jigsaw puzzles, have been the most admired puzzle games since the middle of the 18th century when a cartographer from London first fashioned commercially accessible puzzles. They have stood the test of time due to the captivation people experience while transforming the chaos into order. Completing these photo puzzles that come in the form of boxes containing colorful, yet meaningless pieces is often greatly satisfying.

In contrast to numerous other pastimes, jigsaw puzzles have the additional reward of offering the triumphant puzzler with something pleasurable to view, such as a picturesque panorama, a renowned artwork, a map, or some other scenes. For this very reason, picture puzzles continue to be as popular as ever before and catch the imagination of a broad populace and age group.

Recently, the field of photo puzzles has witnessed a makeover with the arrival of superior quality customized jigsaws from pictures you provide. This has heightened the popularity of these puzzles even further because of the personalized touch attached with them. You can now scan your photographs, store them in the computer and upload them to the websites of jigsaw suppliers to buy jigsaw puzzles that feature your own treasured photo or artwork. If youve a digital camera, you can directly transfer the photos to the computer without making a scan.

Although customized jigsaws have been in the market for quite some time now, a large number of individuals are still ignorant about the progress made by the manufacturing processes in recent times. The picture puzzles developed during the early days were pretty fragile, limited in size and supplying just a few puzzle pieces. This led to a puzzle that was effortless to complete, tiny and not very enjoyable. These days, the scenario has changed drastically. You can now place an order for a jigsaw on the basis of a photograph you provide that is built using the top printing technology, material, and graphic design. And, the quality is on a par with the best jigsaws obtainable in the shops.

Supreme quality personalized puzzles can be availed in an extensive range of sizes and shapes along with piece counts to live up to the diverse demands of the people. They are now more durable and more challenging for a puzzler. Poster-size photo puzzles can be manufactured with 1,000 or more pieces showcasing your preferred photograph or artwork. Your photographs would never have looked so beautiful or offered you so much enjoyment.

Always put much attention to quality because all suppliers are not equal. When you embark on the purchase of a customized puzzle, go through the website of the suppliers carefully and raise queries if you have any doubt. A widespread and safe practice is to opt for one of the larger online suppliers to derive abundant pleasure from the puzzle with your near and dear ones.

Singing Tips for Kids

by: Wikus Meyer

Good singing is all about listening carefully as you sing, and making your voice expressive. There are several websites that help people to improve their singing. These websites teach people about the essentials of becoming a good singer, and techniques thatll help you improve your singing voice First, you need to know your vocal range. If you know you sing high, you are considered a soprano. A good song to prove if your a soprano is the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel Messiah. If you can sing the highest part in the song, you are a soprano. If you can sing some of it, but not all of it, you are a mezzo. If you can barely reach the notes, you are an alto. Be true to yourself-most girls want to be a soprano, but if you know your vocal range is not there, stay lower. If you try to go higher, you may strain your voice.

-Place your thumb under your chin. Now, if you can swallow, that would be great. Feel that muscle drop down tighten? You want to avoid that muscle tightening when you sing.

-Do warm-ups for your voice everyday. If you can't sing everyday, try doing vocal exercises. One good one is "Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do Ti La So Fa Me Re Do" up and down the scale. Also, you know how in some TV shows, if a charecter falls off a cliff, you hear that "WOOOOoooooosh" noise that goes from high to low? Well, go to the highest note you can (you don't have to sing it, simply round your mouth and make a "wooh" sound) and hit every note until you hit that "crash" (which is the lowest note).

-A good singing voice depends on a good diaphram. Your diaphram is under your chest, at the top of your stomach. To help make your diaphram stronger, do this exercise called the "Sumo Wrestler Stans". What you do is say "Sumo" then say "Wrestler" while putting your right foot out to the side and then say "Stans" while putting your left foot out to the other side. Put your hands on your hips and squat down at a comfortable position and let out a "Huuh!" Breath in through your mouth from your DIAPHRAM (not NOISE) and breath in for four counts. Then, hold it in for four counts. After those four counts, start to hiss all the air out for 8 counts. Start to hiss out by 8 more each time. Always breathe in and hold for 4 counts only. This excercise helps you develop the ability to hold out notes longer.

Making it Easier for Kids to Move

by: Albert Savedra

Moving With the Family: Helping Younger Kids

Kids feel a lot of uncertainties and fear during a move. They may not be able to voice out their concerns, but in one way or another, you'll find them having the need to adjust to what's happening around them.

You may get a lot of disapproval about your recent decision to leave your old home. It might be hard for them to accept the fact that they will finally be leaving their friends and favorite places behind. They might not be able to see themselves coping with a new place, with some new friends and neighborhood around.

These are some of the things that reminds us to get them emotionally and physically ready. Doing so can help a family as a whole to make the move not just successful but, also a happy and a memorable experience.

Nothing is better than getting them all prepped up and ready of what's to come. Breaking the news to them gently way before your scheduled move would be a good place to start. Try to get them as ready and as happy as you can towards that big day.

Here are some other tips to help your kids change the way they think about your move:

1. Include them in the planning process from day one. This way, they would feel like they are part of the decision-making process. This may lessen their uncertainties about what to expect. It also makes them feel like they are in control of the situation.

2. Prepare them emotionally. Let them ask questions and answer positively. Help them look forward to the things they would want in their new home, like a bedroom of their own.

3. As you pack your kids essentials kit, it would be a good idea to include some emotionally supportive entertainment stuff like crayons, coloring books, puzzles, books, etc. or some music.

4. Give them a background about the help you'll be getting from your movers, like the Movers in Beverly Hills California. Knowing that your family will get some help may make them feel better about the whole thing.

Getting ready this way can help you concentrate more on the other aspects of moving and thus, help your move to be more successful and make your kids happy and comfortable about it, as well.
